St. Patrick's Day

St. Patricks Day
03.17.2010

Are you wearing green today?? So how many of you really know the reason this day is celebrated? I didnt til i decided to read up on some history about him. Well first off St. Patricks day is celebrated all around the world by everyone to honor the patron saint of Ireland, saint. patrick. He is one of the worlds most religious figures. Though most of st. patricks history has been twisted or made up there are still some history that has been accepted as true. Which i hope i read the true part! hehe.

Patrick was said to have lived between 432-461 A.D. When he was just sixteen, he was kidnapped from his native land by pirates, and sold into slavery in Ireland. [PIRATES!] Patrick worked as a shepard and turned to religion for solace. After six years of being in slavery he escaped to the irish coast and fled back home to Britian. Patrick decided to become a priest then decided to return to ireland after dreaming of irish people calling him to devert them into christianity, He then became a christian missionary. His mission in ireland was said to have lasted about 30 years! Its believed that he died on March 17th in the 5th century.

Why do we wear green? The colors of the republic of ireland are orange, green and white. Orange represents protestants population, green represents the catholic and the white is the peace between them. One of the reasons that we wears green on St. Patrick's Day is because the Catholic side of Ireland is identified with green, and St. Patrick is a Catholic Saint credited with converting the island to Christianity. =)) Learn something new everyday!

Just wanted to share a little bit of what i learned and read about. =)) Pretty awesome guy to me!

As the saying goes... "everybody is irish!"

By the way belle and i are deff wearing our green today! =)) Happy St. Patricks Day!!
